State Launches Clean Energy Program at Energy Summit
On April 6, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. the State Capitol will be the site of an Energy
Summit hosted by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and SmartPower. The Connecticut
Clean Energy Fund invests in clean electric generating options and promotes their
use. SmartPower is a non-profit marketing organization used to promote clean energy
use in Connecticut.
The Summit will focus on bringing together all participants in the state's clean
energy initiatives. In addition to clean energy participants, state legislators
and all interested citizens of Connecticut are encouraged to attend. DPUC Commissioner
Anne C. George will address the Summit attendees regarding the launch of the CTCleanEnergyOptions
program. Other speakers will include representatives of Sterling Planet and Community
Energy, the state's two clean energy providers for the clean energy program.
Each of the above companies will provide two options to Connecticut's electric
utility customers: the clean power choice applied to either 100% or 50% of the
customer's total monthly electric energy consumption.
Customers can choose the CTCleanEnergyOptions program by contacting The Connecticut
Light and Power Company or the United Illuminating Company, whichever Company
services their electric distribution, or by contacting the winning bidders themselves.
At 100% clean power the average residential customer, using 500 kWh per month
would realize a surcharge of $5.75 to $6.50. The purpose of the program is to
offer Connecticut energy consumers additional choices, which fosters the goals
of electric restructuring
Customers should look for their bill inserts with their April electric bills
for additional information. Also, Summit attendees can sign up for the CTCleanEnergyOptions
program at the Summit on April 6.
